Build A Story is an interactive, illustrated story platform. Your child designs a hero, then reads a picture-book adventure where they choose what happens next at every decision point. Each story is generated fresh by AI and illustrated page by page.
When creating a hero, you choose a reading level (early reader to adult) and a content intensity (gentle to intense). These settings shape every page the story generates. For young children, choose an early reading level and a gentle intensity. The story engine respects these boundaries in its narration, decisions, and illustrations.
Family Mode turns story decisions into a group activity. Multiple readers take turns and vote together when the story reaches a crossroads. It's ideal for reading aloud together, and it means no single person decides the outcome.
Bedtime Mode is designed for wind-down reading. The screen dims, the music softens, narration text grows larger, and pages turn automatically. It does not change the story content, only the reading experience.
Your child's stories and choices are private to their account. We do not share them with other users or sell your data. Story content is generated on our servers and stored only for your child to read. See our Privacy page for full details.
For a child's first adventure, sit with them while they create their hero and set the reading level and content intensity. Once those are in place, the story engine keeps the adventure age-appropriate on its own. You can end any story early at any point.
